The Query page

Ask the registry step by step or in words, keep every version as a card, save a selection, and download an answer.

Query has three pages in the side: Cards, Selections and Exports. It opens for a person with see on Query, who asks, runs and charts questions and opens the cards people share. Keeping cards and selections, and queuing ask jobs, need work on Query. Its charts need engine 1.0.0-alpha.19 or later.

Start a card

  1. Open Cards and press New card.

  2. Choose Start from:

    Choice You give
    Everyone the registry holds nothing
One or more cohorts their names, separated by commas
A saved selection one, from the list: its name, version and size
A kept result one, from the list; a result cut off, dropped or withdrawn is not offered
A list of IDs an ID type, and the IDs, one on each line or separated by commas
  3. Press Count it. The dialog says how many subjects, visits and stacks the query starts from. Counting keeps nothing. A set of 1 to 4 subjects reads “fewer than 5 subjects”. For a list of IDs it also says how many matched no subject.

  4. Press Open as a card. The card is kept and opens on its first version.

A list of IDs needs work on Query and seeing records with identifying details; where you lack either, the choice is shown disabled and says what it needs. The IDs live in the dialog alone: they go to the engine’s upload door, which keeps the list’s shape and never a value, and they are in no address.

To start from a saved card, open it and press New card from here. The new card starts from the version open.

Change a card

A card opens on a version. Every change is a move the engine offers, and applying one makes the next version, so an earlier version stays one click away in the row of versions at the head of the card.

  1. Choose a step on the timeline at the right. It runs from where the query starts to its answer.
  2. Change it: take a condition away with its button, or choose a move the engine offers next and fill it in. For a condition, the values the chosen field holds most are offered with their counts.
  3. Press Run. Where the rows go counts the answer by set, Preview 10 rows shows its first rows, and Download CSV saves the answer.
  4. To branch, press New card from here.

Above the editor the card charts what is under the step chosen: its subjects, sessions and stacks; its stacks by type; its stacks by a field from the catalog, such as the scanner’s maker; the sex of its subjects and their age at each session by decade; and the kinds of the subjects’ clinical events. Every number counts a member once. A query that starts from two cohorts reaches a subject in both twice, so Where the rows go can read higher than the charts.

Sex and age are identifying details, so they are charted only for a person who sees records with identifying details. A kind of clinical event marked sensitive is left out for a person who does not see everything, and the chart says so whether or not the query holds one. A count of fewer than five subjects reads “held back” at the plain detail level, as does a list of one to four subjects.

Talk it through

With the assistant set up, a card has a discussion beside its steps.

  1. Say a change in words, such as “only women” or “their T1w stacks”.
  2. The assistant proposes it as the card’s next version. It stands in the steps as a dashed step, with what it changes.
  3. Press Accept to keep it as the next version of the version open, or Disregard to leave the card as it is.

A proposal made for another version can no longer be taken. The discussion stays with the card on any of its versions, and the Assistant lists it with your other conversations.

Keep a card

A card you start is kept at once. What the assistant drafts is a draft until a person keeps it, so the Cards list holds only what people chose to keep.

  1. Open Cards. The Cards tab lists the kept cards; Drafts with its count lists what nobody has kept. Each draft opens on its card.
  2. On a draft’s page, the head says draft. Press Keep. It joins the Cards list and says kept.
  3. To put a kept card back among the drafts, press Unkeep. Nothing is deleted.

The same two buttons are on the query panel in the Assistant. Keeping needs work on Query, and is a person’s act: the assistant proposes and never keeps. Keeping any version keeps the card, and a card already kept stays kept by whoever kept it first. The engine keeps the mark from the release after 1.0.0-alpha.86; against an older engine the tabs and buttons do not show and every card is listed.

Save a selection

  1. On a card that has run, press Save as a selection.
  2. Give it a name, and a note if you want one. A name already used gets its next version.

Selections lists the saved selections, found by part of a name, fifty at a time, each with its size, its version and who saved it last. A run, a campaign, a release or a picture build takes a selection by name@version.

Make a cohort

On a card whose answer ran complete, press Make a cohort. The subjects of its rows, at any grain, become a new cohort named from the card, or join one that exists, with why. The card keeps naming what of theirs, so a release from it gives exactly them. Promoting is Data work.

Download an answer

Download CSV on a card saves the answer’s rows at your own detail level, as a file named after the question and its version, and says how many rows it holds, or why the engine would not export it. Exports lists the kept results, newest first, each with its grain, its rows and when it was made, and saves any of them as a CSV the same way. A result whose rows are held back says so in place of the button.

The charts come from the engine’s POST /api/ask/profile.
