Bifrost

The bridge our data travels over.

When a partner sends us imaging data, or we give them results, it goes over Bifrost: one link per collaboration, with a direction, a space limit, a closing date and a checksum on every file. In the browser for a few files; with a small command line tool for terabytes and hundreds of thousands of files, in parallel and resumable after any interruption. No accounts, no SFTP, nothing to install for the browser path.

For partners

A link opens a bridge that sends, receives or both. Every file is verified byte for byte on arrival; interrupted transfers continue where they stopped. The command line tool runs on Linux, macOS and Windows.

For us

Bridges are opened and watched from our staff portal. Data lands in a quarantine area on Midgard and enters a study only when one of us accepts it; the archive itself is never exposed.

Open source

We wrote Bifrost ourselves and publish it under the MIT licence: a TypeScript server, a web page, and a Go client. Releases, changelog and security policy are at github.com/kineuro/bifrost; anyone may run it or improve it.
